So how about a painting?
Ah! perhaps a bit of news about current work could be interesting. We recently moved from Antwerp to Burgundy. We thought the weather might be better. We are still hoping. In the meantime, this has been a particularly wet winter and I would not be surprised if we had brought it with us. Anyway, in Antwerp, my studio was one of the bedrooms on the top floor of our house, with nice wooden floor and three large windows. It was great except that I had to be careful not to get too much paint on the floor. The walls were a write-off as soon as I started painting in the room. I spent a few hours scraping the paint off the floor when we moved. My new studio is in the barn across the yard from the house. We have had to build a studio in the barn to reduce the cold - yes, it has been a particularly cold winter - and the humidity. I painted in there a couple of times when it was around 9°C but after almost an hour, I could no longer feel my fingers in spite of the two pairs of gloves. It was too humid for the heater to get the space above that temperature. Now, it is much dryer - ventilation and dehumidifier - and therefore quite a bit warmer at around 13 to 15°C. I am working on a largish canvas - 1m90 x 1m70 - and so I have to get on and off the scaffold, walk back and forth to see it and so that keeps me warmer. I had started three smaller paintings but they required less movement so I have put them on hold for the moment. On the plus side, in the new studio, I can throw paint around, splash everywhere, drop cloths and best of all play the music nice and loud.
